Why I'm Starting This Blog

As a SAHM and homechooling mother to four, I needed a hobby to help keep myself sane. Homeschooling is a big one for me. I enjoy planning and finding resources for my kids for homeschooling. But I also needed something to help break up the monotony of time. Homeschooling means all our days and weeks look about the same. The change of the seasons, holidays, etc. don't effect us. And with my husband working as a physician, even his schedule doesn't follow a normal order. For me, I've found that planning trips, both big and small, really gives me a lot of pleasure.

Tyler works 7 days on, 7 days off. That, combined with homeschooling lends to a great deal of opportunities for trips. More than the average family. Our only limits are money and inclination. The first 10 years of our marriage were spent with Tyler (and sometimes myself) in school or training. Having a family of 3 kids or 4 kids on a medical resident's salary didn't lend itself to much discretionary spending for travel. I had to learn to be creative. Now that Tyler is working as a full-salaried physician, we still don't have much room in the budget for travelling, although we do have a bit more.

Most of my travelling is very budget-conscious. But not all. Sometimes we just do something because we want to, but even that is usually kept pretty low-key. We camp a lot as we travel, we make a lot of our own food, I look for lots of deals for activities we want to do and plan accordingly.

Since travelling is a way that I keep sane, it is often on my mind. I usually have some trip or another coming up that I'm working on. This blog is intended to be a journal of sorts, as well as a way for me to vent all my travel-y thoughts.
