Current Big Trip: Disney World in January 2019

My current big trip is a family Disney World trip. Because of our scheduling flexibility, I chose the end of January for several reasons. The first is because that seems to be when Disney World is almost the slowest it gets. It's not too hot and not too cold, and we have a strong preference for visiting places in the off season. Not only is it often cheaper but the crowds are smaller! Disney is no exception and we're excited to not have to face hordes of sweaty people. Another major reason is because we need something to break up the harsh Minnesota winter. Last year was brutal for me and I'm hoping having something like this trip to work on will help. So, we're planning an almost 2 week stay in Orlando, going to Disney for 9 days. We've never done Disney as a family. I've been to the Magic Kingdom 3 times in my life, each for a single day. We aren't Disney people necessarily. After my father died last year, he left some money for each of his children. I d...

Road Trippin'

When we travel, we almost always drive. With 4 kids, it is almost never worth it to fly somewhere. We have family all over the country, so our kids have taken multi-day road trips their entire lives. We've gotten really good at it. In the medical school and residency years, most of our road trips were done without Tyler. He would either not accompany us on the trip at all, or it made more sense for us to drive and for him to meet us at the location as a way to maximize his time off. I can't count how many times the girls and I drove a day or two to visit family and he met us there. Often the girls and I would be gone longer than him, and I learned my limits and preferences for travelling with the girls alone. I'd listen to audiobooks while the girls watched movie after movie. We would eat out one meal a day and the rest were simple snacks and car food. Heck, we still travel like this a lot of the time. Now that we have a mobile hotspot, the girls use their own tablets fo...

Why I'm Starting This Blog

As a SAHM and homechooling mother to four, I needed a hobby to help keep myself sane. Homeschooling is a big one for me. I enjoy planning and finding resources for my kids for homeschooling. But I also needed something to help break up the monotony of time. Homeschooling means all our days and weeks look about the same. The change of the seasons, holidays, etc. don't effect us. And with my husband working as a physician, even his schedule doesn't follow a normal order. For me, I've found that planning trips, both big and small, really gives me a lot of pleasure. Tyler works 7 days on, 7 days off. That, combined with homeschooling lends to a great deal of opportunities for trips. More than the average family. Our only limits are money and inclination. The first 10 years of our marriage were spent with Tyler (and sometimes myself) in school or training. Having a family of 3 kids or 4 kids on a medical resident's salary didn't lend itself to much discretionary spendi...
